Happy New Year everybody! As always I'm constantly making changes under UMD's hood without announcing anything, and I just wanted to address a few questions that keep getting asked
System messages from UMD will now come to your inbox instead of going to your notifications. This keeps them all within a single thread, preventing them from being buried in loves and activities from those you follow. This also prevents important messages from being auto-deleted after two weeks.
I reprogrammed the whole ratings system so that it weights all UMD content in advance instead of in realtime on page load, which makes things a lot faster, but there was a lot of fallout from that which I'm still working on. I'm still tweaking a few sections that should be updating more often or showing a different set of content.
The Wammer of the Day functions have been thoroughly reworked. Until now there was no actual permanent record of who had won in the past; Each day's winner (and runner-ups) was just calculated and stored in a temporary cache, subject to actually changing after the fact due to various of factors, but starting Jan 1 it'll be more permanent. I added a list of past users here: https://umd.net/users_of_the_day/start/0
I've worked on the bin / video encoding infrastructures to tweak how much parallelism is allowed based on server load. Even given that, hopefully files shouldn't take much longer to show up in your bin or for new streaming files to show up in your membership areas, but I'm watching that.
The AI tagging / filtering system is coming along. I added labels in a lot of places to forewarn when content is synthetic, and fixed some functions that weren't correctly inferring synth image tags in forum replies. People who don't like AI *really* don't like it, to the point where they think it's the end of the world, but it's not going away so it's important to get this right.
Just wanted to touch on a few things that have been going on, as I know I don't post often and random weird things are happening all the time. Thanks to everyone in the community who takes the time alert me to things that I may have missed. I appreciate all yall!
